Levitation Magazine have always considered Lumerians to be creative demi-gods hence our delight in discovering they were to play Fuzz Club Eindhoven 2019 so we thought we would ask them a few questions. This interview was from some time ago aka August 2019.
How much are Lumerians looking forward to Fuzz Club Eindhoven 2019? We've wanted to play it for a couple years now, but it never worked out timing wise, so we're happy to finally make it happen.
What has been the highlight of this year for the band? We haven't played very much this year. Been working more on writing and recording new material. We're releasing two new songs on a 7" out soon and about to go on tour for a few weeks. I think we need to get back to you on this one.
Do you prefer playing live or recording in the studio? Completely different experiences. Recording can be incredibly frustrating, but when it goes well, it's fantastic and you get a document of what happened that could last for a very long time. Playing live is almost always a rewarding experience and can be ecstatic or transcendent, but it's ephemeral.
What has been your favourite gig to date? Early on we played a warehouse/artist space party in LA that doesn't exist anymore. We had no idea what to expect and the people booking it seemed like total weirdos. Turned out they were total weirdos, but in the best possible way and everyone there became a giant singular complex multi-celled organism with the powers of dimension phasing and levitation.
Where would you most like to play if you could play anywhere in the world? Beneath the Genghis Khan equestrian statue in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia. Had a dream about this once and it seemed like the right thing to do.
Can you name 5 albums that would provide an understanding of your musical influences? 5 albums most influential to our music is almost an impossible question to answer. We’ve all been obsessed with music all our lives. Reducing it to five albums most influential to us, an answer could be: The Psychedelic Aliens - Psycho African Beat, Can - Ege Byamyasi, The Stranglers - The Raven, Chrome - Red Exposure, Os Brazões- Os Brazões. But this question could have many different answers and they’d all be correct.
What are your future plans? We're just releasing the 7" mentioned earlier. We're also in the middle of working on a new record. We'll probably take a break from playing shows after this next tour to focus on that. So far the songs we've been working on sound pretty different. Excited to see where it goes.
Are there any bands that you would recommend checking out?
The Oscillation and have heard good things about Vuelveteloca.
Did you know Lumerians were the first band Levitation Magazine interviewed? No! That’s awesome. Thank you.
Finally, you covered Crazy Horses by The Osmonds in French are you fluent in languages or just obsessed with those guys?
We were slightly obsessed with that song at the time. It seemed like such an anomaly or a bizarre captivating time capsule. I don’t remember why we decided to put the name in French, but it seemed like the obvious choice at the time.
